So I recently received this question during my talk with students from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business: “What’s your advice for Jacks-of-All-Trades on finding a niche?”
Here are my thoughts:
- If you are “Jack or Jill,” I won’t tell you to be “plain Jane.”
- It’s okay to use many talents but try to make them complement each other and build a “skills combo.”
- Sometimes, you don’t need to give up a passion but put it on pause so you can prioritize.

Others may advise you to choose only one path, but if you resist and it doesn’t suit your mold, why feel pressured?
It takes self-mastery to admit that you can accomplish many things in life. Often, it boils down to managing your energy and discerning the timing.
