3 Ways to Earn Extra Income as a Freelance Writer

Do you want to turn your passion for writing into something profitable? Do you want to earn extra income as a freelance writer? If you answered a big “YES” on that, you might want to consider freelance writing.

Here are three things you can do to start:

3 Ways to Earn Extra Income as a Freelance Writer

1. Connect with freelance writers.

One of the best ways to learn about freelance writing is by talking to people in the industry. If there’s no freelance writer on your circle, another option will be to join groups on Facebook. You can check our very own community of writers and entrepreneurs on Pen Movers.

Also, take some time to do some research on freelance writing. Find out the do’s and don’ts so you can start off on the right foot.

2. Start your own blog.

Having your own website is a great way to boost your credibility as a writer. You can use it as your portfolio to help you secure more clients.

You can also earn income from blogging. I used to have a co-worker who made money from his blog. He was invited to cover events and write press releases. He’s the one who guided me during my early years in writing.

3. Find your niche.

Let’s define “niche” first.

Your writing niche is your focus or specialization. To earn more as a freelance writer, you need to choose what you want to write about or what kind of writer you’ll be.

Do you want to be a copywriter, content writer, or a ghostwriter? Do you want to write about traveling, digital marketing, or mental health?

Deciding a niche might be one of the most stressful things for newbies. But, you’ll eventually find the right one for you as you get more clients and gain experience.

Choose something that you’ll enjoy doing or writing about for now. Of course, you need to consider if it’s profitable or not but remember that writing requires time and effort. You don’t want to spend a day or two writing about a topic you don’t enjoy, right?
