Customer Journey for Content Marketing Success

Customer Journey for Content Marketing

The customer journey has the same framework as the marketing funnel.  It describes what process your target customers go through when buying a product.

Awareness Stage

The first stage of the customer journey is Awareness.

Imagine that your mom will have a birthday.  You became aware of the date and the need to buy a gift.  You started looking for ideas.

While browsing on Facebook, you saw an online store selling branded bags.  That image registered on your mind as a possible gift to your mom.

Consideration Stage

You are now considering bags as a gift.

However, you felt that an expensive bag will not appeal to your budget nor the taste of your mom.

You kept looking and found a blog post about handcrafted, embroidered pouches.  This shop has a big 50% OFF SALE offer for those who subscribed to their email list.

Decision Stage

A day passed and you got an email announcement that the handicraft store has a shop near you.  Learning this reinforced your decision to buy.

What happened in our story describes the three stages of the customer journey: awareness, consideration, and decision.

Your target buyer becomes aware of a problem, opportunity or need.  They will look for a solution to meet what they’re looking for.  And then decide to purchase.

Your goal in content marketing is to create content that will make your target buyer notice and remember you throughout the customer journey.

In this example, the social media post, blog, and email message spoke to the buyer at each stage.

Similarly, the relationships with your prospects and customer change as the customer journey progresses.
